Choosing meal prep containers that work for you

Choose containers around the meals you pack, the space you have and how you use them.

1. Choose useful sizes

A breakfast jar, a salad box and a dinner portion need different shapes. Check internal dimensions and capacity before ordering a whole set.

2. Compare materials

Glass can suit home storage, while lighter containers can be easier to carry. Think about weight, breakage, staining and how you’ll use the container.

3. Check the lid

A clip lid and a seal don’t automatically guarantee leakproof performance. Look for the manufacturer’s stated use and carry dressings separately if needed.

4. Check every use separately

Microwave, oven, freezer and dishwasher suitability vary. Check both the container and its lid; don’t assume they have the same limits.

5. Think about the whole set

Check whether it nests or stacks, whether spare lids are available and whether the sizes fit your fridge, freezer and bag.

Buy for the way you’ll use it.
